teen boy wanted on murder charges

Police have identified a 15-year-old as a suspect wanted for second-degree murder after a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old died in a shooting in Hamilton earlier this week. Hamilton Police said the shots rang out at a home at Candlewood Drive at around 2:25 a.m., near Rymal Road East and Upper Centennial Parkway. When police arrived, they identified the victims a 18-year-old Abdulmalek Shibli and 16-year-old Afef Binafif. They said they were found with gunshot wounds outside of the home, and subsequently died at the hospital. Det.-Sgt. Mike Ebert said earlier this week that at least six people attended the area when “an exchange of gunfire occurred.” According to Ebert, one of the individuals involved in the exchange of gunfire was also part of a bear spray attack that took place at a home near Barton Street East and Centennial Parkway North at around midnight. “At this time, police believe the shooting may have been retaliation for an earlier disturbance involving bear spray,” Ebert said. The victims’ families are grieving the loss of their loved ones, investigators said, adding they are focused on finding the person responsible. In a news release on Friday, Hamilton police said they obtained a warrant for the arrest of Rahziel Martin, who is 15 years old. They added that they received judicial authorization under the Youth Criminal Justice Act to temporarily publish Martin’s name and picture for the purpose of finding and arresting him. Martin is wanted on two counts of second-degree murder and four counts of attempted murder using a firearm. The allegations against him have not been tested in court. Investigators are urging Martin to seek legal advice and turn himself in. They said anyone who knowingly assists Martin in evading his arrest may be subject to criminal charges too.
