A 20-year-old woman in Chhattisgarh was murdered by her boyfriend in a public park after a relationship dispute. Despite a severe neck injury that left her unable to speak, she used a mobile phone to communicate details that led to the suspect's arrest.

RAIPUR: A 20-year-old domestic worker, her throat slit in a brutal attack inside a public park in Chhattisgarh's Surajpur district, desperately ran out in search of help before collapsing in a puddle of blood. Unable to speak because of the deep neck wound, she communicated basic details about herself by typing on a mobile phone shortly before she died, helping police crack the case within hours. Speaking to TOI, Surajpur SP Yogesh Patel said, "Police have arrested a man identified as Ritesh Rajwade, 23, on charges of murder. The man confessed to the crime claiming that he was in relationship with her for past six years and was upset after she went cold. It's not clear if it was a consensual meeting."As per the initial investigators it appears that the attack stemmed from a relationship dispute after the accused allegedly suspected the victim of having another affair. The victim, Radhika Rajwade, a native of Latori village, worked as a domestic help at a residence in Surajpur town.According to preliminary probe, Ritesh had called Radhika to Nehru Park on Sunday evening. CCTV footage and the investigation suggest the two spent nearly an hour talking inside the park before an argument broke out.The accused pulled out a knife and slashed Radhika's throat. The blade pierced through her neck. Believing she had been fatally injured, the accused pulled the knife out and fled on his motorcycle.Gravely wounded but still conscious, Radhika staggered out of the park in a desperate bid to save herself. Bleeding profusely and unable to cry for help, she ran several metres before collapsing. Shocked passerby rushed to her aid and shifted her to the district hospital.Doctors found her unable to speak because of the severity of the neck injury. Police officials who reached the hospital attempted to question her. She reportedly gestured repeatedly towards the officers, asking for a mobile phone. Realising she wanted to communicate, they handed her one.She was later referred to Ambikapur medical college hospital but she succumbed to injuries late night. With the victim's identification of the accused and CCTV footage from the park and surrounding roads, police pieced together the sequence of events. Technical evidence, including the victim's phone records and chats, corroborated the lead, following which Ritesh was traced and arrested the same night from a forest area.Police are also trying to recover the weapon used in the crime and are examining digital evidence to establish the exact sequence leading to the murder. The incident has shocked residents of Surajpur town as the attack took place at Nehru Park, a popular public space barely 500 metres from the Kotwali police station, raising concerns over safety in the heart of the town.
