AI Summary

The Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative has publicly praised Nigerian President Bola Tinubu for his economic reforms and infrastructure projects. The group argues these difficult decisions are necessary to prevent national economic collapse.

From Charity Nwakaudu, Abuja The Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative (GMI) has applauded President Bola Tinubu on his third anniversary in office, saying his administration’s bold reforms are laying the foundation for Nigeria’s economic recovery despite the hardship experienced by many citizens. National Coordinator of the group, Samaila Musa, said Tinubu had shown uncommon courage by confronting Nigeria’s long-standing structural problems instead of pursuing short-term political gains. He acknowledged that the reforms had been painful for many Nigerians but insisted they were necessary to avert economic collapse and reposition the country for sustainable growth. “Our conclusion is clear: no leader in recent history has had the courage to take on Nigeria’s toughest problems head-on like President Tinubu. He didn’t come to play politics with our future; he came to fix the country from the ground up,” Musa said. The group praised the Federal Government’s policy requiring value addition before the export of strategic minerals, describing it as a major step towards industrialisation, local processing and job creation. GMI further commended the administration’s infrastructure drive, citing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Expressway and Ibadan-Ilesha Road as projects that would enhance connectivity, boost trade and support agricultural development. According to the group, the removal of fuel subsidies and reforms in the foreign exchange market were difficult but necessary measures that helped prevent economic collapse, while increased federal allocations to states and local governments had strengthened grassroots development. It also claimed that Nigeria’s external reserves had risen above $50 billion, while reforms in the mining sector were compelling foreign investors to establish local processing plants instead of exporting raw minerals. The group further praised the introduction of student loans, the increase in the national minimum wage, passport reforms, expanded security recruitment, anti-corruption efforts and Nigeria’s renewed diplomatic engagements. Musa urged Nigerians to remain patient and continue supporting the administration, expressing confidence that the benefits of the ongoing reforms would become more visible in the years ahead. Tags:
