Dricus du Plessis and Kamaru Usman both entered the UFC Oklahoma City main event after missing nearly a full year of action. In the end, it was the former middleweight champion who returned to the win column in impressive fashion. The speed of du Plessis (24-3) was an early X-factor along with his significant size advantage against the former welterweight champion. Over the course of five rounds, du Plessis consistently found high-impact right hands, mixing in heavy step-in knees and head kicks to hurt Usman (21-5). Du Plessis was defensively sound against minimal takedown attempts, ultimately earning a unanimous decision (50-45, 49-46, 49-46). In his post-fight Octagon interview, du Plessis, 32, made it clear he wants to reclaim the UFC middleweight title he held a year ago. "When it comes to the title shot, I said a win wouldn't give me a title shot. A title shot may feel like a far hope after such a lopsided defeat against Chimaev, but the Usman victory puts "DDP" right back into consideration, with him holding two wins over current champion Sean Strickland. Usman, 39, suffered his fourth loss in his past five fights. After the bout, Usman was noncommittal on his fighting future or whether he'll return to middleweight or welterweight — if he does at all. "As you can see, I still got it. I just need to go back and reassess," Usman said in his post-fight interview. "I hate coming out here and not really representing my coaches, my training partners and my gym well. I put the work in, and they know I put the work in. So, when you come out here and you're not successful and don't represent them well, it stings a little bit. But you know, we go back, we reassess, and we got some thinking to do.
