Dwight Percival Fatu, a senior leader of the Waikato Comancheros gang, has been jailed for nine years and five months following his involvement in Operation Equinox, a New Zealand offshoot of the global FBI investigation Operation Trojan Shield. This operation tricked suspects into using an FBI-built encrypted communication platform called Anom, allowing law enforcement to monitor their communications. The defense argued against the use of Anom evidence due to potential breaches of the Crimes Act and Human Rights Act regarding warrant-less interception.
