'Want to meet Suvendu babu': Man climbs lamp post, performs stunts for 40 minutes
A mentally challenged man caused a 40-minute traffic disruption in Kolkata after climbing a lamp post and demanding to meet a local official. Police and emergency services successfully rescued the individual, who is now in custody for questioning.
KOLKATA: A mentally challenged man climbed a lamp post on Tala Bridge and created a tense situation after demanding a meeting with chief minister Suvendu Adhikari.The incident took place around 5.30pm on Tuesday when the man walked towards an electric pole and climbed to the top.He tied his shirt around the metal frame, took out his phone and began filming the crowd gathered below.He later performed balancing acts on top of the pole, leaving commuters and onlookers alarmed. When people urged him to come down, he shouted, "I want to speak with Suvendu-babu!"The man also allegedly threatened to harm the local officer-in-charge during the standoff, prompting police intervention.The situation continued for nearly 40 minutes, bringing traffic movement between Shyambazar and Chiria More to a halt.Police personnel, firefighters and disaster management teams reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.
