West Indies cricket legend Garry Sobers dies at 89

NEW DELHI: Garfield Sobers, one of the greatest all-rounders in cricket history and a former West Indies captain, passed away on Friday at the age of 89. His death was confirmed by his son, Daniel.Sobers was just 10 days short of his 90th birthday. Widely regarded as one of the finest cricketers the game has ever produced, Sobers represented the West Indies from 1954 to 1974.A legendary careerSobers played 93 Test matches and scored 8,032 runs at an average of 57.78, including 26 centuries and 30 half-centuries.A left-arm fast-medium bowler, Sobers also claimed 235 Test wickets. He also played one One-Day International, taking one wicket.Record-breaking featsOne of the defining moments of Sobers' career came in 1958 when he scored an unbeaten 365 against Pakistan.
