The Indian Parliament's Monsoon Session has commenced with a legislative agenda that includes the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill and the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill. The government is also managing the fallout from the failed Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill.
The Monsoon Session of Parliament begins today (July 20, 2026) and will conclude on August 13. On April 17, the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, which sought to redistribute Lok Sabha seats based on the 2011 Census and facilitate the implementation of women’s reservation, was defeated by a united Opposition. In a House where 528 members were present and voting, 298 voted in favour of the Bill, falling short of the required two-thirds majority.
