Where Is Daeron Targaryen After ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3?

Someone lost Daeron Targaryen again. The young contender for the Iron Throne on House of the Dragon went missing in the season 3 finale. Here’s what we know about when, and if, we’ll see Daeron again. Is he already dead? Like...This poor kid! We met Alicent Hightower’s youngest for the first time this season. While offscreen, he has been groomed by his weird uncle Ormund Hightower, who wants to install the young Targaryen on the Iron Throne and rule as his adviser. Daeron has resisted many of Ormund’s toxic ideas about masculinity and breeding. He attempts to broker peace with his uncle Daemon Targaryen. But he still feels an obligation to the men who rallied behind him for a cause he doesn’t want.At the end of season 3, Gwayne Hightower—who somehow survived the finale’s chaos—cannot find Daeron Targaryen anywhere. Did he die by dragon fire? Did he manage to run off and/or fly away on his own dragon, Tessarion? Those are questions that only season 4 can answer. So we wait.Ormund did die in the season 3 finale, quite brutally, at least. Honestly, it’s kind of sad to see him go? He may have been annoying and full of hate, but he was at least funny.Here’s what happens to Daeron in Fire Blood:Book spoilers ahead, obviously. Can George R. R. Martin’s source material give us any hints about what happened to Daeron? Not necessarily, as there have been a lot of changes so far. But it’s a decent place to start. The third season ended with the death of Helaena Targaryen and the first battle of Tumbleton. In Westeros time, both of those occur in the year 130 AC. To put that in context, the Dance of the Dragons ends in 131 AC. We’re nearing the end, and fast!However, I regret to inform you that both Daeron Targaryen and Gwayne Hightower die in 130 AC. Gwayne was actually supposed to die in the events that happened at the beginning of season 3, to be fair. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with him next. Maybe he can sail off to the queer paradise in Essos where they sent Laenor Velaryon and Qarl Correy. Just thinking thoughts!In the book, Daeron dies at the Second Battle of Tumbleton. Will that actually be depicted on the show? Season 3 of the HBO series ended with the First Battle of Tumbleton. While it didn’t seem like the show was combining the two, you never know. There is a small, tiny, minuscule possibility that Daeron already died. I hope not, as there is a small conflict between Daeron and Hugh Hammer (and Ulf) just before that second battle that would be nice to see onscreen. Alas, we can’t say for sure.For what it’s worth, his death is mysterious in Fire Blood. That’s sort of the fun thing about Martin’s book, which acts more like a history book than a fictional novel. There are often conflicting accounts of a character’s fate just like real life. While “no body, no death” is the rule in this universe, in the book Daeron’s body is never found. That creates an Anastasia situation, where different people pretend to be Daeron years after his death. Given that there was already one Daeron pretender in season 3, I’m not sure how successfully they could pull it off again. But it’d be a pretty good gag if they did.
