Wigan pub fire RECAP after crews battle flames at historic John Bull Chop House

Crews have been battling a fire at one of Greater Manchester's best loved pubs this morning. Firefighters descended on Wigan town centre overnight after a blaze broke out at the historic John Bull Chop House, on Coopers Row. People were urged to avoid the area, with a 50-metre exclusion zone set up. A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "At approximately 4am on Tuesday 4 August, four fire engines from Wigan, Atherton and Leigh fire stations were called to attend a fire at a pub on Coopers Row, Wigan. “Crews arrived quickly and used breathing apparatus, three hose reels, one hose reel jet and other specialist equipment to extinguish the fire. Firefighters remain in attendance at this time.” A Wigan council spokesperson added: "GMFRS are currently tackling a blaze at the John Bull pub in Wigan.
