When Dive Deeper Shows a Chart vs. a Timeline vs. a Map
Dive Deeper picks each visualization based on what the underlying data actually looks like. Here is the logic behind those choices.

The data shape decides the visualization, not the topic
Dive Deeper does not pick a visualization based on subject matter — a business story and a political story can both get a chart, a timeline, both, or neither, entirely depending on what kind of structured facts the research actually produced.
A timeline needs dated events
If the extracted facts include enough distinct events with usable dates, a timeline is generated — regardless of what the story is about.
A chart needs comparable numbers
If the facts include a genuine set of comparable figures — a value over time, or a value across categories — a chart is generated. A single standalone statistic is not enough on its own.
A map needs confident locations
If at least two locations have confidently identified coordinates, a map is generated. A story that only vaguely references "the region" without specific places will not produce one.
More than one can appear together
These checks are independent — a single report can have a timeline, a chart, and a map all at once if the underlying facts support each of them, up to a small cap so the report does not become visualization-heavy.
Key takeaways
- ✓Each visualization is triggered by whether the underlying data supports it, not by the story's topic.
- ✓A timeline needs dated events, a chart needs comparable numbers, a map needs confident coordinates.
- ✓A single report can include several visualizations at once, up to a small cap.
Frequently asked questions
Can I request a specific visualization?
Not directly — visualizations are generated automatically based on what the research supports, so the report always reflects what the data can actually show rather than what was requested.
